Parts needed for conversion
  • shock spacers, included in your rtr or kit
  • Graphite front shock tower
  • A custom made wooden bar
  • Various screws and nuts from your hardware store.

There are very few noticable differences in the two shock towers aside from the cross bars, and the stability.  One difference, however is that the carbon fiber tower does not come with the neccesary hardware for installation.

The carbon fiber front shock tower

This is the actual tower. It is a fraction of a centimeter thinner, but that does not affect installation at all.

Step Two

The first step, obviously is to take off the old shock tower. I removed the entire front end from the truck by removing the three screws that attach the bulkhead to the rest of the chassis, and the upper deck. This makes it easier to work in there, especially later on. Step two involves chopping down your new screws if they are not the right lenght. You will now want to screw the shock tower to the bulkhead, then the camber links to the outer holes of the tower. I use the outer ones, because the inside ones provide simply too much camber.

The Finished Product

This is the finished product. You cannot use the stock screws to mount the tower to the bulkhead. I tried it for a weekend, and it came loose. It may feel solid in the begining, but trust me, it will come loose. This is one worthwhile investment. But, you need to make a wooden piece to keep the shocks from moving around on you.

The piece will need to be as wide as the shock mounts, and will need to snugly hold the fat part of the shock spacers.  The spacers are needed for this conversion.  The bar will go accross the front top of the shock tower, and keep the shocks from tilting in.
